Christian Computer Recycling And Refurbishing

It has always been a part of the MissionaryNet vision to serve in some capacity to bring computers to the developing world ministries. A recent series of events presented the inspiration and the opportunity to launch a new project to do just that.

I have started a new website, a sister site to MissionaryNet, at www.VirtualMissions.org which will be operated to provide computer parts, tech support, and online training courses in building, repairing and refurbishing computers.

Do It Yourself (DYI) Computer Recycling

If you can turn a screwdriver then you qualify to be Do It Yourself computer dismantler. You are an excellent candidate to dismantle your old PC and ship the parts to ministries around the world. I am developing some tutorials to assist to teach how to dismantle a computer for recycling and sending the parts to someone refurbishing a computer.

Watch This Video About Refurbishing Computers In Africa

There are certain aspects to using computers in the developing world which you may not be aware of. You can get a good look at many of them in this short video about refurbishing computer in Senegal West Africa on YouTube produced by a commercial refurbishing company from Vermont.

Teaching Computer Building

As the YouTube video shows there are already a number of computers in the developing world. If provided a ready supply of parts to repair or update computers with, ministries can often locate their own computers at prices they can afford. By teaching basic computer building and repair skills students not only get computers but they also acquire the skills to keep them in good repair and working order. We use a combination of Moodle online courses, online powerpoint style tutorials, and user forums for supplying student information to build their computers. Of course they are receiving this information through computer labs operated by ministries in their location so these learning tools augment the local instructor.

Tech Support For Ministry Computer Labs

It can sometimes be a technical challenge for a ministry to operate and maintain a computer lab so at VirtualMissions we are putting together a volunteer tech support group for helping maintain the computer labs. Trouble ticket software enables labs to login and submit requests for the next available tech to service.

Your inward willingness to obey God is the way to know God's will for your life! Develop this by daily studying God's word and spending time with Him. God has the blueprints of our lives, not us. We are to rejoice in times of trials. Don't regret your past mistakes, just learn from them and realize that God uses them to as stepping stones to mold you according to His purpose for you and to build your character. God is a covenant God. Psalms 25:9 He leads the humble into what is right. John 7:17 If anyone has the willingness to do God's will, he will have discernment. Only His sheep know His voice. Those that are His sheep, her and obey him, not the world. For the world does not know His ways or His voice. So next time you go through the valley (i.e. hard times), remember that God is adding stepping stones to the ones you already have and is shaping you into the person that can carry out His will for you and fell blessed.
