News From Kenya
I just received a very disturbing report of the events occurring in Kenya
as a result of the recent civil unrest from the recent elections.
I've created a page here with the
full report and photographs of the events.
Sept. 24, 2007
The "One Laptop Per Child" program to develop a $100 laptop for
developing world children is in the news after they announce expanding the
program to allow US purchasers to buy one provided they also buy one for
developing world children. Similar to a typical "buy one get one free" style
the price is $399 for the US laptop and the "free" one goes to a developing
world child.
The
OLPC Children's Machine XO, developed by MIT Media Lab co-founder
Nicholas Negroponte was designed from the ground up for durability and
functionality in the developing world condition.

I've added a new Christian computer refurbishing for missions website at
www.virtualmissions.org to work
in conjunction with this one at . It will hopefully begin a three part
process to get computer labs established in the mission field.
- The first part, Do It Yourself Computer Recycling is designed to teach
the basic skills to novices to test, catalogue and dismantle their own old
computers for use by ministries in the mission fields. These computers are
mostly located in more affluent areas and are meant to produce spare parts
for the mission fields. It is much easier to ship replacement and upgrade
parts than it is to ship whole computers.
- The second part is to teach ministries how to locate used computers in
their own areas, and to refurbish them into usable computer labs. The idea
is to start with a few, use the parts from the Do It Yourself recyclers
supplement whatever they can find locally, and to train persons in the
ministry's local area how to build, refurbish and maintain the computers.
Not only will those students be able to build computers but they will be
able to maintain them also.
- Part three is to develop a technical support team for those ministries
where they can submit support tickets to experienced ITs that can help
them with any technical issues they are experiencing.

In my article "Internet In A Can" I talk about an idea for by passing the
lack of infrastructure in the developing world and closing the digital
divide by placing the data on media and transporting it physically. Well I
spotted an article on the BBC website that uses the very same idea but in a
grand scale. They use a van equipped with wifi to run a circuit of towns and
villages where they upload and download data from their van with the wifi.

We have a new website associated with us. Christian Vision Ministry,
located in rural Tanzania, has their website in our MissionaryNet website at

I don't usually place websites in the news section but today I found one
that I would like to recommend. The address is
http://www.wayofthemaster.com/. I watched all their videos and they
bring up some excellent points about evangelizing. It is an excellent
evangelism training program that I highly recommend.

Back in 2004 I received an email from Stuart, in Uganda, which posed a
serious question. Today, read Stuart's
letter and then join his
MySpace which he has just now opened to see if technology has had any
effect in the developing world.

The Producer of This
Website Would Like To Invite All Our Visitors Who Have Their Own Websites to a new
web promotion tool that we have produced. This tool could provide income to ministry
websites everywhere. This tool, a website directory,
is entirely a secular and business pursuit but we want to offer the
first fruits to the Lord Jesus and for His Church. I am using the Multi
Level Marketing approach to get this website promoted rapidly. This means a
ministry website will collect commissions on future enrollments from their
website. In addition, the website functions as a semi automatic link
exchange that will increase the traffic to your website. As a special offer
to the Christian community there is no charge to any Christian ministries
registering in the Christian category. The website's name, Bungee Bones, is
strictly a marketing gimmick to provide a name that sticks in person's memories so
they can tell their friends. The address is
www.BungeeBones.com. It may be just
a little clunky getting it going but once it starts we expect it to be a very
successful directory. Be sure to read about the commissions we expect it to
produce. If the Lord is willing it could be a great income source for
ministries.
PlayPump Water System
Brings Clean Water To developing World Areas Through Kid Power
January 29, 2007
A life-changing and life-saving invention – the PlayPumpTM
water system -- can provide easy access to clean drinking water, bring joy to
children, and lead to improvements in health, education, gender equality,
and economic development.
The PlayPump systems are innovative, sustainable, patented water pumps
powered by children at play. Installed near schools, the PlayPump system
doubles as a water pump and a merry-go-round for children.
The PlayPump system also provides one of the only ways to reach rural and
peri-urban communities with potentially life saving public health messages
Lions Club International has an eyeglass recycling program that collects,
sorts and services eyeglasses for shipment to those in the developing world.
Their policy includes a suggestion that they only be sent to secure
organizations, among which they mention religious organizations. Visit their
website to obtain eyeglasses for the poor in the developing world
Unity Orphanage
Launches New website
Nov 1, 2006
Unity Orphanage is a
developing world leader in applying technology. Whether
with their Skype internet telephony, their online radio program, or their
visiting short-term mission program, Unity is a wonderful example of local
ministry taking the initiative to alleviate poverty and suffering.
Visit their website,
you'll be blessed.
How To Solve The Digital
Divide
July 1, 2006
A new article titled "Internet_Canning
Factories" has been added. While discussing the "Internet
In A Can" idea it occurred to me that the concept in the article could
be used to all but eliminate the digital divide.
A new ministry
World Missions Gospel Centre
has been posted in
the list of ministries we work with around the world.
They have a website at
http://www.freewebs.com/wmgc/ that is informative and enjoyable. See
what the Church is doing in Eldoret Kenya.
Mar. 16, 2005 I would like to ask everyone's help in getting this offer
publicized. I would like to offer to any short-term mission team my
assistance (free of charge) to build a computer lab for bringing as a gift
to their destination. I believe I will be most useful installing the server
operating system (Linux K12ltsp) and Moodle (a distance ed teaching tool),
teaching them and others in their church how to teach Online using the
Moodle software, and doing the technical administration for the lab after it
is installed. Every day there are mission teams heading out to all parts of
the world. My hope is that we can establish numerous labs and get the people
there well connected and networked to believers and churches in other areas.
Feb. 6, 2005 There are two new pages to the website that I encourage
everyone to read. The first is titled "How To Build
An Inexpensive Computer Lab" and provides a step by step process for
putting together a robust computer lab for pennies on the dollar by using
Linux Thin Server Project. We also discuss the educational software bundled
with it in K12LTSP. And let's not forget to mention that we have Moodle
bundled in with it to tie it all in to MissionaryNet.
I also added a page which is my response to a Kenyan Pastor friend who
had been perusing the MissionaryNet website and came upon my discussion of
"Internet In A Can". John asks simply "What is Internet In A Can"? Visit
my response to get my reply to this most
fascinating topic :-)
Sept. 7, 2004 Well, we're still refugees from hurricane Francis. We evacuated to relatives in South carolina. We can't return to Florida as they still haven't re-established electrical service. So far we have only been able to determine that there wasn't flooding in the section where our home is, but the were some roofs that were damaged. I'm sure there will be much damage to the interiors of those home.
Aug 31, 2004 Two weeks after the western part of my state was devastated
by hurricane Charly hurricane Frances is bearing down on the east coast of
Florida where I live. There will be a lot of property destroyed if this
hurricane hits. There may even be loss of life. As believers, what answers
do we have for the lost that will be asking "How can a loving God send such
destruction"? If you would like to write something about this I would
welcome your thoughts.
Aug 24, 2004 I welcome Pastor Alexandre Oliveira from Brasil. I have been
talking with him over the Internet with the software
Skype and showing him around the
Missions
Training Center built with the Moodle software. As a demo of what it is
capable of we are building a combination bible study/English course. Pastor
Alexandre teaches disadvantaged youth in his area English. The course uses
the text from John chapter 1 as the core text for a vocabulary building
course.
Aug 2004 Completed an educational website at
www.childhelp.virtualmissions.org for the use of Childhelp of Sierra
Leone. This ministry will be bringing education opportunities to Sierra
Leone, Africa.
July 13, 2004
Received a new request from the Children's Welfare
Center which is home to 50 children in Nepal. This is a tremendous
ministry opportunity. Would you help this work and bring Christ's love to
this group of children?
July 5, 2004
This letter from a student in Uganda very eloquently answers a very
difficult question - Why is it important to get internet and education
resources into even the most desperate of locations when their most basic of
needs are not being met? Read brother Stuart's
letter that he selflessly wrote on behalf of his people and of his
neighbors in Rwanda.
Feb 27, 2004
I added a reciprocal link sign up on the links page. I have been doing a
little research on "Search Engine Optimization" and am told that the number
of other sites that link to you has a major influence on your ranking by the
major search engines. I would like to start moving mthis website up in the
rankings a little. If you would be interested in doing the same please
submit the form and I will notify you of its posting after I review it.

The Online Missions training Center is now operating The suggested
method to get acquainted with it is to take the Free
Internet Missions Training Course. Learn all about creating and teaching
online courses. Visiting the link will let you see the course description and
lead to a syllabus and a link to the course itself.
August 2, 2003
There is now a free advertising page on this site to help developing world
churches, ministries, charities etc locate resources. There are ad heading for
computers, sister churches, child sponsors, and selling locally produced
products. If you have a need or an offer of help to a developing world
organization post it to message
ad board

In the coming months there will be some major changes and developments to the
website and operation of MissionaryNet. Until now, the website has presented the
vision for what I hoped to accomplish with the website. There has been a steady
stream of inquiries and responses but there hasn't been the ability to engage
the persons in an active role with the missionaries. That is all about to change
thanks to the discovery of a new software.
Moodle is a software developed specifically for teaching online. I have set
it up on MissionaryNet and will be available to the public soon. It will allow
the general public the ability to design and teach courses online to the
developing world children.
You can get a jump on the online course software by visiting the designer's
website at www.moodle.org . There is pleny
of info and great forums on all the related topics.

We have a new ministry entered in our list seeking helpers.
St Paul Society
St. Paul's is a small island of Christian
community in the vastly Muslim nation of Pakistan. They train over three
hundred students per year with computer knowledge and job placement. The
Christian believers in Pakistan are generally the poorest of the country,
with the professional instructors at the school earning a salary of less
than $80 per month. Though the age group is high (the students are all
secondary school graduates) St. Paul's is accomplishing what MissionaryNet
hopes to establish more of and is demonstrating what is possible by training
with computers. You can visit their site at
http://www.stpaulinpakistan.org/.
Nov 10, 2002
We have expanded our fundraising efforts and
have created a virtual mall website at
www.yellow-web-guide.com. Any
purchases you make from any of more than 1400 merchants results in
commissions being paid to help orphans and street children. There are many
of the familiar named companies like Walmart and Spiegel and also many
unique or hard to find specialty items. By just altering your spending
habits a little you can help this ministry, We are also offering this
virtual mall to other churches and Christian groups for their fundraising
efforts. Contact us for
more details.
Be sure to check out the new listings on the
Missions Network
page. Each of these ministries are seeking sponsors for their children.
Nov. 4, 2002
We have a new addition to our mission list.
Kaihura
Full Gospel Church, located in
Kampala, Uganda, contacted Missionarynet because of our internet presence.
But they have done a great job on their website and deserve a visit. Their
work is presented to you very well and you will see the great job they are
doing even with the little they have.
They are a great
example of what the new missions era is about. Missionarynet is now working
with them with our new "Internet in a can" program. Internet in a Can (no,
it's not Spam) is where we download valuble information from the internet
and place it on CD for the missionaries. Not only can we download much
faster than they can with our highspeed internet but they can access the
info even faster than Highspeed Internet from the CD.
Please do check them out.
www.kaihuragospel.org
Also, another new
addition to the mission's list is House of Peace in
Tamil Nadu, India. They are
home to over 1100 orphans. They also have facilities for caring for widows
and train thousands of evangelists and pastors for bringing the gospel to
those who have never had the opportunity to hear the good news. Visit their
website at
www.icmc.ziby.net
We have added translating software links in the border area to the left.
Though the translations are not perfect a person can generally get
understanding of most of the content. This, in addition to our instant
translating chatroom and translating discussion forum (see the top
navigation bar) provide for worldwide
missions communication, Click on either of those links to get more
information about the translation features including tips and suggestions on
their use.
